I’m M. Reid Acree, Jr.,
attorney at law and certified mediator. I have practiced law for over nineteen years and have successfully represented clients in workers' compensation, Social
Security disability, employment matters, personal injury and asbestos-related
claims. I have been admitted to practice in North Carolina, South Carolina and
Georgia. By combining diverse experience, in-depth legal knowledge and a
commitment to my clients, I have helped many people obtain justice and fair
compensation. If you are ready to make a claim, or your claim has been denied, I
may be able to help you receive the benefits that you are due.
I received my B.A. in economics
(cum laude) from Wake Forest University in 1982. After graduation, I worked in
the banking industry and sales for four years. In 1986, I returned to Wake
Forest University to pursue a law degree, graduating in 1989. While in law
school, I was a member of the Law Review, the Moot Court Board and an elected
member of the Honor Council.
After law school, I moved to
Atlanta, Georgia, having always wanted to live in a "big city." During this
time, I worked as an insurance defense attorney and management labor and
employment attorney. In 1994, I returned to my home state of North Carolina to
practice with Maupin Taylor and Ellis, P.A. - then the largest and oldest
general practice firm in Raleigh. Based on my insurance defense and employment
law background, I focused exclusively on representing insurance companies and
corporations in workers' compensation claims. During the next five years I grew
tired of defending impersonal companies and faceless bureaucracies. I felt that
I needed to make a real difference in people’s lives, and I made a commitment to
protect the rights of those who have not always gotten a “fair shake” in life.
In 1999, I moved to Salisbury,
North Carolina to work in a plaintiff’s workers’ compensation practice. I
focused on occupational disease claims where I represented hundreds of victims
of asbestosis and asbestos-related cancer. In March 2003, I formed my own firm
to help clients with workers’ compensation claims, Social Security Disability
benefits, personal injury claims, employment matters and asbestos claims. I also
work with other firms in North Carolina and South Carolina that lack the
expertise in asbestos and chemical exposure claims.
My wife (the former Tina
Sizemore) and I live in historic Salisbury, North Carolina. I am active in our
community and serve on the boards of two local non-profit agencies. I am also a
member of First United Methodist Church of Salisbury.
